The Santa Cruz River Could Become Arizona’s First Urban National Wildlife Refuge!

The proposed Santa Cruz River Refuge consists of a patchwork of protected properties along the river corridor, extending from Nogales to Marana. Approximately 8,000 acres, including twelve miles along the river, are in Santa Cruz County. Friends of the Santa Cruz River is a founding member of the coalition seeking federal protection for the river. We want the river’s rich cultural history and biological diversity to be preserved for future generations. This designation would also bring increased eco-tourism dollars into our local economy. Governor Hobbs, the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, the Pima County Board of Supervisors and the city of Tucson have all signed letters of support.
